Marie Curie Cancer Care Support
Marie Curie Cancer Care Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer
Last year the Schorne Team website appeal raised £1000 for WaterAid - an excellent result which will now be making a difference to thousands of lives in Africa.
This year David Meakin asks us to look closer to home. His brother has been diagnosed with cancer with all of the fears and concerns which that brings. The great majority of us will know one or more people who have battled this cruel disease - whether successfully or unsuccessfully.
Along with thousands of families, David Meakin's has had to deal with a relative suffering from terminal cancer. It is a terrible disease which, in so many ways, can strip away dignity and independence. Paul Meakin has put up a tremendous battle against the disease, supported by his wife, Mary, and children, James and Philippa, as well as the wider family.
Research commissioned by Marie Curie Cancer Care shows that 64 per cent of people would choose to die at home. In reality only 25 per cent achieve this.
Every year, Marie Curie Nurses make that wish possible for thousands of cancer patients in cities, towns and villages across the UK.
Marie Curie Nurses now care for around 50 per cent of all cancer patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home.
Please try to support this work which makes so much difference as people approach the end of their lives.
