The Schorne Team
people, faith, life
The Rev’d David Meakin MA
Schorne Team Leader
I joined the Team in 2004, having previously served as Vicar of Ryhope, a Parish just outside Sunderland. Before that I was Precentor and Sacrist at Durham Cathedral. I am married to Heidi and have three children, Tatiana, Jessica and Alexandra.
Since my arrival I have been looking for ways in which the Schorne Team can best support the needs of the individual parishes. To that end we have put in place a new constitution for the Team Council are now working through its implementation. We hope to enable each of our churches to stand at the heart of the communities which they serve.
Mrs Nina Newton
Schorne Team Council Chair
I was brought up in Leighton Buzzard and educated at Christ’s Hospital. I have lived in Dunton with my husband and daughter for eleven years.
I have been privileged to serve as lay chair of the Schorne Team Council since 2005.
Our aim is that the Team Council should support the Parishes by sharing experience and expertise.
Mr David Morris
Schorne Team Council Vice Chair
Born on the Isle of Wight, I have lived in Granborough with my Australian wife Jenny for nearly 40 years. We are proud of our daughter Catriona who is a Borough Councillor and a Magistrate in Milton Keynes, where she lives with our grandchildren Lucy and Toby. I have been on the PCC for more years than I can remember and have done periodic stints on the Deanery Synod and JPCC.
A lawyer, I am currently H.M. Coroner for Bedfordshire, Luton and Cambridgeshire and when I am not dealing with sudden and unexpected death I am a President of the Mental Health Review Tribunal. In the parish I am more of a “bricks and mortar” man rather than much of a spiritual mentor – hence my involvement in the structures and setting up of the Team Council.
Mr Jonathan Gibbs
Schorne Team Council Treasurer
I have been Treasurer of Hardwick PCC for 20 years and also took on the role of the Schorne Team Council’s treasurer from early 2006. My experience as PCC Treasurer has enabled me to fully appreciate the financial burdens currently being placed upon individual parishes.
My role is to advise the Team Council on the management of its own finances as well as advising how the Team as a whole can meet its annual Parish Share obligations to the Diocese for meeting the costs of Ministry.
I am married to Julie and have two daughters, Frances and Jo and we are all keen (but realistic) supporters of Watford FC.
Mrs Caroline Campbell
Schorne Team Council Secretary
I have been secretary to the Schorne Team for more years than I can remember – probably about 15. I am now self employed, but have had various secretarial posts, which included four and a half years in Bangladesh followed by a similar time in East Africa working for my husband, David, when he was Field Director for OXFAM, and latterly FARM-Africa which he founded while we were in Kenya.
We have lived in Quainton for 39 years. Our four daughters have flown the nest and are following their chosen careers. We have five grandchildren all of whom live locally so we see them frequently and are able to help with childminding.
The Rev'd Andy Bell
Schorne Team Vicar
I am a Vicar in the Schorne Team and have been her since 1999, having spent nearly 4 years as curate in Leighton Buzzard. Prior to this I was in buisness for 18 years. I share joint responsibility for all the parishes in the Schorne Team with my colleagues but the reality of the situation is that I look after those nearest to me - North Marston, Granborough and Oving. I have spent most of my life living in the country and I want to see the rural way of life thrive and for village Churches to be at the heart of their communities.
When not going about the Lords Vineyard, I am manservant to a large family from whom I do like to escape occasionally on one of vintage motor scooters.

The Rev'd Janet Bayly
Schorne Team OLM
I have lived in North Marston for 36 years. I have 3 children, Liz, Adrian and Edward. They are all married or engaged and we have 5 grandchildren.
I left teaching in 2003 in order to complete my training to become a Licensed Lay Minister. However, soon after I was licensed I felt God calling me into ordained ministry. I shall be ordained in October this year at Christchurch Cathedral along with 6 others on my course.
I believe my strengths to be pastoral care, leading services, and working collaboratively. I love spending time with my husband and family, singing. taking exercise, socialising and being an active member of the Schorne Team.
The Rev'd Liz Welters
Vicar of Waddesdon, Westcott and
Upper Winchendon
Tel 01296 655069
I am a House-for-Duty minister in the Schorne Team, looking after Waddesdon, Westcott and Upper Winchendon. The delightful, isolated church at Fleet Marston, which is cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust, is also in Waddesdon Parish. Having lived in Aylesbury for 25 years, moving to Waddesdon in 2003 meant a big change, but I enjoy the huge variety of opportunities presented by rural parish ministry, including going into the three local schools. As there are popular wedding reception venues in or near the Parish, our churches are in demand and I find it a joy to prepare couples for marriage.
I am married to Brian, and we have two grown up daughters, Ruth and Hannah. Much time is spent trying to keep the large Rectory garden under control, but we enjoy the beauty of it as the seasons change, and the abundant wildlife which visits it.
The Rev'd Paul Mansell
Schorne Team Assistant Curate
Tel 01296 641246
I am the newest member of the Schorne team, having moved into Hardwick in June 2007 with my wife, Jane, and our three children. Previously I studied full time at Ripon College Cuddesdon for two years, also with my family. Before college I worked for eighteen years as an engineer (and within engineering management) in the telecommunications industry. I hold a Masters degree in Science and I am currently completing my BA in Religion and Theology which I started at Ripon College Cuddesdon.
I grew up in a small village in North Yorkshire and other than a brief spell in centre of Newcastle and Oxford I have lived in rural communities. Before starting ministerial training I was involved with a number of churches within rural communities, including a fresh expressions church plant. I believe the opportunities and challenges for rural churches require an understanding of how communities within this context operate. As the traditional heart of a community, churches within rural communities have a need to offer accessible ministry to all which reflects God's unconditional love for all humanity.
